Hillary Hanson – Board Secretary 

Hillary Hanson is the Assistant Director of the University of Chicago Survey Lab. She started working for the Survey Lab while in the MAPSS program in 2011 and has served in several different roles at the organization since that time. Hillary specializes in operations for field studies and web surveys and overseesall research activities with primary responsibility for day-to-day management of active projects, staff training, budget development, and reporting.

One of the most rewarding aspects of her time at the Survey Lab has been hiring, training and working with many students in theMAPSS program. In addition to her work at the Lab, Hillary is a member of the Midwest Association of Public Opinion Research and has presented her research at the International Field Directors and Technologies Conference.

While in MAPSS, Hillary’s focus was social psychology and her thesis explored the effect of gender roles on women’s STEM performancethrough an in-lab experiment. Prior to receiving her master’s degree fromthe MAPSS program, Hillary received her B.S. in psychology from Iowa State University and worked as a prevention specialist for Youth and Shelter Services in Ames, Iowa.

Hillary has been a member of the MAPSS Alumni Board for two years and currently serves as the Board’s secretary. She also volunteers with Urban Rivers in Chicago as a River Ranger and enjoys getting out to explore every corner of the city. Her personal interests include cooking and planning motorcycle trips through Europe and North America.
