Michael Fabos – Board Member, Career & Networking Committee

Michael Fabos is a seasoned anti-money laundering and compliance professional, with prior work experience in both the U.S. Government and in academia.  He is currently the Senior Manager of Business Intelligence in the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) at BMO Harris Bank, where he leads a team that conducts exploratory data analysis to enhance money laundering and terrorist financing transaction monitoring and investigations.  Formerly, he was the Demarket/Tuning manager in the FIU at BMO, and prior to joining BMO he held senior compliance positions in transaction monitoring and coverage strategy at JPMorgan Chase.

Before his time in banking, Michael held roles in operations research, strategic planning, and counterterrorism analysis for the Executive Office of the President and the Intelligence Community, where he specialized in countering terrorism finance networks and transnational criminal organizations.  He has also held several academic appointments, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Social Science with Purdue University and an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics and Statistics for Southern New Hampshire University.

He is a third-year Ph.D. candidate in International Studies and Political Science at the University of Birmingham (UK), specializing in grand strategy, American foreign policy, and early Cold War history.  Previously, he earned his M.S. in Mathematics and Statistics from Georgetown University, an M.A. in Social Sciences from University of Chicago, and a B.A. in History from Washington University in St. Louis. 

In his spare time Michael is an active volunteer as a member of the University of Chicago Master of Social Sciences Program Alumni Board, as a member/interviewer for the Alumni and Parents Admissions Program for Washington University in St. Louis, and through BMO service events.  In order to keep up with his young kids he stays active through physical fitness and enjoys sports, fishing and the outdoors, family road trips, and the occasional chess game or Mensa puzzle. 

He resides in Prospect Heights, IL with his wife and three children.
