Sena Agawu – Events Committee Co-Chair

My name is Sena Agawu and I graduated from the MAPSS Program in 2016 with a focus in Sociocultural Anthropology. Immediately after finishing the MAPSS program, I briefly worked at Loyola University Chicago for a faculty member in the BiomedicalSciences Program. It did not take me long to return to the University of Chicago as the Assistant Director for Diversity Recruitment in the Office of UChicagoGRAD. In this role, I was responsible for managing institutional partnerships and the outreach tostudents from underrepresented backgrounds interested in earning a Master’s or Doctoral degree at the University of Chicago. In my current roleat the Chicago Booth School of Business as the Associate Director for Diversity Outreach I oversee the outreachand recruitment initiatives for the full-time MBA program. My position is dedicated to diversifying the full-time MBA program by working with prospective students from underrepresented backgrounds, including women, members of the LGBTQ community, and students of color.

In addition to sitting on the MAPSS alumni board, I volunteer for my undergraduate institution, Dickinson College,as an Admissions Ambassadorand sit on the Reunion Committee. I am also a member of the Associationof Black Alumni at the University of Chicago. In my spare time I enjoy exploring Chicago’s extensive food scene –some of my favorite restaurants include S.K.Y and Dusek’s in Pilsen, Kimski in Bridgeport, Tesfa Ethiopian in Uptown, and Parachute in Avondale, cooking winter stews, attending pop-up shows, designing and sewing clothing, and spending time with my partner, Will, and our curmudgeon of a cat, Oscar.
